CableFax Nomination

This observative application allows participants to post brief accounts of their 9/11/2001 experiences and mark their stories with location-specific tags as features on an interactive map. Visitors are able to explore all posted anecdotes by location and filter them to see their friends' stories and share comments. The app is available worldwide in nine languages, allowing global participation from Facebook users who will be able to pitch in with unique perspectives.

Launched in July of 2011, the app has captured nearly 8,500 stories from individuals around the world. When recalling personal experiences of 9/11, we often look to where we were during the pivotal moments of that day's striking series of events — the moment flight 11 hit World Trade Center's North Tower, the moment the South Tower collapsed, the moment flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon. Though the memories and magnitude of loss suffered on that fateful day remain chaotic and incomprehensible, it was the collective presence and kindness of strangers that carried many people through the unimaginable horrors they witnessed. To honor the memories of lost loved ones we invited visitors to rebuild this collective history of 9/11 by sharing their personal stories through an interactive Facebook application.

Winners of CableFAX Best of Web awards will be announced at a Best of the Web Awards Breakfast on May 21, 2012, from 7:30 – 9:00 a.m. at the Seaport Hotel in Boston.
